It’s green chile season in New Mexico! if you don’t have a gigantic roaster stashed away in your backyard – fear not. You can roast green chile from the comfort of your home with a few simple household tools.
Tips & Tricks for roasting green chile at home
The first thing to do is pick out fresh Hatch green chile. Not chile from Colorado or Anaheim chile, but Hatch green chile.
The next thing you’ll want to do is place the green chile on a hot outdoor grill – directly on the grill grates – and close the lid. Once you start hearing the chile hissing and popping , lift the lid and turn, or about every 1 – 2 minutes.
Once the green chile has been thoroughly blistered and is cooked through, remove from the grill and set aside.
Fill a bowl with ice water and soak the green chile for 2- 3 minutes or until cool to the touch. Lift the chile from the water, the skin will slide easily from the chile. Set aside to use for cooking.
